7/22/11 22:42 HFPD was called to the 1400 block of N. Meridian Rd. for a report of a possible house fire. Caller advised they heard something fall on the ceiling and saw smoke coming from gable vents and pushing from the eaves. Upon arrival, HFPD pulled a hoseline and opened the gable vent to locate the fire. Heavy smoke was found but fire was not visible. At this time, a TIC was used to determine the fire location, but there were still no visible flames. Smoke was intensifying on the outside of the residence and the owner stated a scuttle hole was located on the east side room addition. This location was opened and a small area of smoldering was found. Embers were extinguished with a pressurized extinguisher and an 1 3/4 hoseline. Due to the presence of cellulose, the area around the smoldering embers was also opened to check for fire hidden in the cellulose. It was then determined that the fire was extinguished and no other areas had been affected. Upon investigation, it is believed there was a fault in the house wiring which contained spool and knob type insulators. The fire did not travel to other areas due to a lack of oxygen in the attic because there were only two small gable vents which would not allow for an adequate supply of oxygen.
