On April 22, 2008, Battalion Chief Mark Nixon & Lieutenant Zach Page participated in a Ride Along with Battalion Chief Thomas Kennedy of the Chicago Fire Department. B/C Kennedy is assigned to Battalion 3 which is located north west of Downtown Chicago.  B/C Kennedy has long supported Harristown personnel with Ride Alongs, which allows HFPD Personnel see more action and learn from the Ride Alongs.
Battalion 3 responded to three calls during the ride along, the first call was for a Gentleman that turned the gas stove on allowing gas fumes to fill up the apartment, Engine 35 & Truck 28 ventilated the building and shut off the gas to that apartment.  The second call was to a Manufacturing Facility, upon arrival of Engine 5 & Truck 2, they reported light smoke coming from the building, as both companies were preparing to go to work, it was determined that the smoke was part of the process and was lingering low to the ground.  The third call was for an Accident with Injuries and Vehicle on Fire on the Kennedy Expressway, Engine 42, Truck 3, Engine 14 responded along with two ambulances.  The BMW failed to negotiate a entrance ramp to the Kennedy Expressway, struck and flipped over the retained wall crossed another lane of traffic and burst into flames, fortunately passerby's assisted the occupants out of the vehicle.
